Dear all,
After getting feedback from the different teams of the ISB department concerning the use of competent cells, specific changes will be made concerning the future availability of these cells on the ISB platform:
- Competent cells that are heavily used (TOP10 and BL21[DE3]) will further be provided on the platform (2nd floor, sonication room).
- TOP10 cells will further be made by Edouard Troesch.
- BL21[DE3] cells will be made by the ISB platform.
Please remember to mention to the persons in charge when the stocks are getting low (< 25 tubes) in order to avoid shortage as it has been several time the case in the past months.
- BL21[DE3] competent cells that are less used (pLysS, pRare2, pLysSRare2, RIL) will no longer be made available on the platform. Each team will be responsible for making its own stocks.
If you wish I can however provide a list of the teams that will make them in the future and that would agree to spare some from time to time (@team leaders: please provide feedback on making these strains available), for those of you who are using them punctually.
- BL21[DE3] Origami cells should also soon be added to this list.
- BL21[DE3] competent cells that are hardly used (Artic Express, C483) will no longer be made available on the platform.
In order to, however, avoid that every team purchase its own stocks of strains, Edouard Troesch will continue to make glycerol stocks for ALL the strains mentioned above and that can be picked up by team members on the ISB platform.
Edouard and Arnaud will define a storage system to avoid shortage and will come back to you about it. Here again, please report decreasing stocks of glycerol stocks!
Please note that Edouard will also further prepare stocks of antibiotics (Ap, Cm, Ka, Sp, Gm, Tc) and IPTG for the ISB department. These will be provided as 12 mL stocks.
